SA Women’s Open set to sizzle
Some of the best women golfers in the world will be in action.
IT’S all systems ‘go’ for the Cell C South African Women’s Open, which will be played at San Lameer Country Club from October 16 to 19.
The South Coast is set to sizzle with the best in women’s golf action this month.
The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Ladies Tour, in partnership with the WPGA of South Africa and the Ladies European Tour.
The field, which features many international players, has been increased from 108 to 126 players.
It will feature such stars as South Africa’s Connie Chen, a recent winner of the Tenerife Open de España Femenino, as well as Lee-Anne Pace, Ashleigh Simon, Stacy Bregman and Paula Reto.
Then there’s English professional and 23-time Ladies European Tour winner, Trish Johnson, plus American Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger, and don’t forget the defending champion, Marianne Skarpnord from Norway.
They will be playing for a total purse of R4.5-million, an increase of nearly half a million rand on the 2013 tournament’s prize money.
The winner will take home R675 000, and the golfers will compete on a San Lameer Country Club course which has recently been upgraded, most notably the greens.
The clubhouse has also undergone a significant upgrade to make it the perfect host for this world-class tournament.
