The KBA Players’ Association AGM and Bowls Day will be held at MBC on October 18 and all past and current district players should attend. After the meeting, women’s sides will take on men’s sides in a 21-end district format for the winner’s trophy. Players to wear whites or KBA colours.

THE BELL

THE Captain’s Anchor sponsored mixed fours last week was won by Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk, Caroline Harris and Daphne Hounsel. Second were Alan Mandy, Stafford Tippett, Adele Reader and Angela Moorhouse. Margie and Duncan Randall, Stan Sackett and Desiree Krause came third.

The Fruit & Veg City 2-4-2 is on October 21. Club competitions are well under way, check the notice board for details.

MARGATE CC

GARY Hess, Arthur Orr and Bill Parfit won the Hibiscus Retirement Village men’s trips with 4+7. Runners-up on a shot count-out were Mike Davis, Gino Alilovics and John Keppler with 4+4. Session went to Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Lucas Barnard with 2+19. Norman Isherwood won 50/50. The Engel and Volker men’s fours is tomorrow (17th) and the mixed trips on October 21. Duties: Dora Vosloo, Helen Proctor and Mike Green.

RIVERSIDE

WINNERS of the Hopdens KwikSpar competition were, Gary Hess, Dawn Oehley and Lucas Barnard on 4+18. Runners-up were Chummy Smith with Eddie and Norma Louw on 4+16.

First session went to Vi Eltis, Ann Gibson and Marilyn Francis on 2+12 and second session to Madge and Harry Nicolson and Sharon Smith on 2.

Pony Twilight bowls will be held tomorrow (17th) from 3pm, followed by a German ‘bierfest’ night and a donkey derby at a cost of R30pp.

The annual prize-giving will be held after tabs-in on October 25, followed by a ‘build-a-burger’ light supper at R25pp. The social challenge rematch between MBC and RBC will be played at Riverside on October 29.

MBC

WINNERS of the Fruit & Veg City men’s trips played last Friday were Athol Robertson, Dieter Scholtz and Shane Nienaber on 4+10. Runners-up were Clive Edmundson, Mike Berry and Arthur Orr on 4+5 and the session went to Bill Brown, Martiens Olivier and Bill Eccles on 2+11.

Ellen Cawker, John Richards, Alison Dinning and Phil Audibert won the Henry’s Butchery vouchers on 8+20. The next sponsored tournaments are the Manaba KwikSpar women’s 2-4-2 tomorrow (17th) and the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 on October 24. The annual ‘Jacks and Jills’ is on October 19, the Andy Scott talk on October 24, the annual ‘Oktoberfest’ on October 25, Riverside Challenge at Riverside on October 29 and ‘Toys for Joy’ on November 21.

The next bingo evening is on November 3. Sunday morning bowls are played in mufti and bowlers and non-bowlers are welcome.

MALCOLM Milne and his two assistants, Elliot Nqoko and Alfred Shusha have been very busy and the greens are slowly coming through. A pleasant evening’s quiz took place last Friday with new quizmaster, Elaine Harrison. Good to see previous quizmaster Beryl Lakin scratching her head for answers.

PORT SHEPSTONE

KEVIN and Lesley Lancaster and Gill and Keith Thiele attended a coaching course at The Nest. Keith and Kevin, together with an eleven year old girl, won the competition on the final day. Kevin and Lesley played in the spring tournament in Bethlehem with Eddie Fann, Alan Jacobson and Murray Ross. The Business Challenge is on October 17 at 2pm. Duty: John Nadauld.

BANNERS REST

Barry Payn, Mariaan van Buuren, Sergio Ruperto and Ann McAllister won the Warwick drawn mixed fours played last Thursday. Steve Rennie, John Keppler, Hazel Delaney and Michelle Botha were second and Kotie Snyman, Ray Elders, Pat Miller and Sariena Fouchè came third. Sportsman prize went to Mike Davis, Yvonne Fillis, Pam Gilson and Jill Francis, 50/50 to Jokkie van Buuren and the spider to Pat Miller.

Next sponsored competitions are the Banners Rest mixed trips on October 16, and the SuperSpar mixed trips scheduled for October 23 has been moved to October 30.

UMTENTWENI

MARIE Coetzer and Mada Lindeque won the Dennis and Jenny Graham sponsored women’s 2-4-2 on a score of 4+26 from runners-up Sharolyn Dacey and Tina Barbour on 4+24. Inger Mitchell and Margie Randal took session on 2+14.

Dennis Graham and Mike Findlay won the South Coast Herald men’s pairs with a score of 4+6 from runners-up Tom Sempel and Derick Celliers on 4+3. Steve Doran and Barrie Queen took session with 2+9.

The next club event is the 3rd Avenue mixed fours tomorrow (17th), followed by the Kaygee sponsored women’s 2-4-2 on October 23.

The postponed Schooners Restaurant in-house competition will be played as soon as weather permits.

VILLAGE

LUCAS Barnard, Norman Isherwood and Aileen Ward won the Hibiscus Insurance Brokers mixed t and Herman Scheinberg, Bill and Nelia Reed came second. Session went to Gary Hess, Bill Brown, Dawn Oehley, Dave Garland, Dawn Ingle and Doug Kent. Alistair Mitchell took 50/50.

THANKS to MCC for hosting the Nomads last Sunday. First prize went to Lenie Geyer, Kobus Faber, Eric Chamier and Barbara Jackson on 10+14, runners-up were Ian Hutton, Hans Hugo, Leza Edwards and Johnny Louch on 8+14 and third prize went to Malcolm Milne, Mada Lindeque, Sharon Sceinberg and Myra Doubell. The sportsman’s prize went to Sandy Davis, Eula Greer, Kevin Todd and Pippa Rowney on 0-10, nearest the Jack to Ann Waugh and 50/50 went to Jill Brent. The next outing is at Riverside on November 9.
