THE BELL

THE Venture Inn/Jaxx sponsored open trips last Tuesday was won by Piet van Rooyen, Susan Fourie and Inger Mitchell. Second prize went to Barry Devlin, Keiron Dacey and Steve O’Moore and session was won by Keith Harcombe, Charles Murgatroyd and Kevin Mullin.

The next sponsored competition will be the mixed trips on October 31 and skips are requested to confirm entries. The draw for the club-drawn mixed fours has been posted and the first round is on October 25.

A braai will be held after the popular Sunday morning bowls on October 26 and visitors are welcome.

SANDY Davis, Trish Steyn, Annette Payne, Betty Bolton, Treasure Philpott and Rosalie Bloom won the Manaba Kwikspar vouchers last Friday. The annual Jack and Jill morning was a huge success and the Jacks won on a shot aggregate.

Congratulations to Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Jessica Henderson, Ronita Kalil, Esta Wenzel, Chris Forward, Shane Nienaber, Danny McCarthy, Ken Tonge, Lenie Geyer, Georgie McKechnie, Jonathan Jacobson, Franci Philpott and Yvonne Bausek on being selected to play in the KBA interdistrict teams.

HANS Wijtman has been out fertilising after all that wonderful rain and the green is looking really good. All men who submitted names for the sevens league must contact their skip to find out when and where they are playing.

BILL Brown, Rassie Erasmus, Barry Herbert and Chris Abram scored a creditable 14 points in a weather-shortened match to become the new winners of this month’s Engel & Volkers men’s fours ‘league’. Jan and Jacque Snyman, Glen Douglas and Kevin Lancaster took silver on a score of 13 points.

Chris Forward, Albert van der Lith, Sergio Ruperto and Cliff Moakes won bronze on 12 points. The next match is on November 14 and the final on December 12. 50/50 went to Chris Abram.

Due to the Warwick Fours on October 29, there will be no men’s trips on October 28. Kobie Stander, Dora Vosloo and Jean Marnewick won the Hopden’s Spar women’s trips with a score of 4+14, runners-up were Heather Roberts, Viv Date and Lorraine Wijtman on a score of 4+7.

Session went to Esta Wenzel, Annette Coomer and Georgie McKechnie on 2+13 and Annette Payne took 50/50. The Hair Shoppe women’s fours is on October 31. Christmas lunch is on December 15 at noon. Duties: Jo and Martiens Olivier and Marie Rogers.

DAVE Hume, Irene Filmer and Ally Weir won the mixed trips played last Thursday and runners-up were Chris Forward and Brian and Pam Cole-Cook. Session went to Joe Ashworth, John Keppler and Anne Wells and the 50/50 board to Sandy Davis.

The next sponsored competition is the Port Edward SuperSpar mixed trips on October 30 and not October 23.

The AGM will be held in the Breezeway at 10am on November 17 and all members are urged to attend. Committee nomination forms have been posted and the closing date for nominations is November 10.

Tony Simmonds, John Richards and Bill Reed won the Hibiscus Retirement Village men’s trips, runners-up were Denzil Massyn, Gary Hess and Carl Volker and session went to Bill Brown, Barry Herbert, Bruce Coldwells, Rennie Geyer, Ron Canning and Brian Smallberger. Garth Philpott took 50/50.

The Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 winners were Hein Bester and Clive Bignell, Denzil Massyn and Chris Abrams were runners-up. Session went to John Sutton, Don Fowler, Hans Wichmann and Phillip Lotter. Roy Baker won 50/50.

Betty Bolton, Trevor Smith and Val Kirkbright won the Hyundai in-house competition and Denzil Massyn, Nora Hills and Hazel Barton were runners-up. Third place went to Clive Bignell, Kathy Hall and Marie Momple.

THE annual prize-giving is this Saturday (25th) after tabs-in, followed by the ‘build a burger’ supper at R25 pp.

The social challenge rematch between MBC and RBC will be held at Riverside on October 29 and the next sponsored competition is the Fruit & Veg City mixed 2-4-2 on October 31. DUNCAN Randall and Mada Lindeque won the JCee Sounds mixed pairs with a score of 4+15. Runners-up were Dennis Graham and Cynthia Korb on 4+12 and session went to Jan Huygen and Astrid Jackson on 2+10.

Doreen Ferguson, Derick Celliers, Tony Aveyard and Trudy Rush won the Schooners Restaurant 3-2-1 scoring competition on +18 from runners-up Peter Browning, Elfrieda Goosen and Jenny Graham with +14.

The next club event is the South Coast Herald men’s pairs on November 3, followed by the Harbour View SuperSpar in-house mixed 2-4-2 on Friday 6th.

PORT EDWARD

THERE will be a sevens league squad practice at the club on October 31. All selected players to be there in whites by 2.30pm sharp. The trivia quiz is on the same evening at 5.30pm. The cost is R10 per player and boerewors rolls will be on sale. This is open to members and non-members.
