THE BELL
RAIN played havoc with last Friday and Saturday’s fixtures, but despite that, donations and the auction of a gift donated by Beyers Chocolates (in aid of ‘Reach for Recovery’ breast cancer support) went ahead and a sum of R605.00 was raised. Thanks go to all the generous players. Margie Randall won the chocolates and 50/50 went to Tony Olivant.
The Venture Inn/Jaxx open trips will be played on November 11 and the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours on November 14. Skips to confirm entries. Tabs in will be played on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and there will be a braai following bowls this Sunday (9th). All are welcome.

Winners of the chickens at the extremely successful South Coast Herald women’s fours last Thursday were Maureen Muller, Sharon Bischoff, Lesley Lancaster and Margie Randall. Runners-up were Daphne Sapsford and Marie Coetzer and Barbara Gradwell and Mada Lindeque.
The next women’s fours will be held on December 4 and all entries to Jenny Rawlins at 083 2726565. The popular Harbour View SuperSpar 3-2-1 played last Sunday morning was won by Phil Myburg, Murray Ross and Julia Peacock.
Runners-up were Brian and Jenny Rawlins and Daphne Hounsell with second session going to Johnny Guy, Glenn Douglass and John Bloch. The next Harbour View competition will be on December 7. The next sponsored tournaments are listed on the notice board, contact Ian Hutton at 081 3166634 or Trixi Smith at 082 9409745 for further information. The next major event at the club will be the ‘Toys for Joy’ evening on November 21 and the theme is ‘Hawaiian’.
The next quiz evening will be held on November 19. Sunday morning bowls is played in mufti and bowlers and non-bowlers are welcome. MUNSTER
THE Munster Bowling Club’s green was officially reopened last Tuesday and members would like to thank Willie and Ella Smith and Martiens and Rita Zietsman and all helpers for the tremendous amount of hard work put in during off-season to improve the clubhouse and gardens.
After two tabs afternoons, the club hosted a competition sponsored by Thebe Stockbroking last Saturday morning. Cliff Moakes, Joan Fowler and Rita Zietsman were overall winners and second place went Patrick Gilbee. Helen Cock and Eileen van der Lith, Hedley Meek, Penny Hood and Grace Harding came third and the board went to Helen Cock.
Open trips will be played on the morning of November 11 and the men’s pairs on the morning of November 14. Tabs is on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons at 1.30 for 2pm.

MCC’s highlight last week was the annual Warwick Wealth Invitational Fours. Skips from many clubs were invited to bring a mixed team to an all-day sponsored event last Wednesday. There were cash prizes totalling R3 000 for seven of the 12 teams and competing teams were drawn in the morning to play 10 ends. Winners then played other winners in another 10 ends. The eventual winners with an excellent score of 8+21 were Marianne and Jokkie van Buuren, Rob Lyle and Leoni Booth. Runners-up went to the Rawlins team of Brian and Jenny Rawlins and Keith and Gill Thiele. Athol’s team ended up third, with Rassie’s team fourth. Ellen Cawker’s team won the plate section.
Unfortunately the Hair Shoppe women’s fours was washed out, but the eventual winners were Sheena Absalom, Mal Moni, Dawn Ingle, Francie van der Merwe, Marie Rogers, Dora Vosloo, Leoni Booth and Sheenagh Dempster. Winnie Hess, after quite a lengthy stay away from bowls was lucky enough to win the 50/50 draw.

UMTENTWENI
DUE to the KBA sevens league, the next Umtentweni Bowling Club event is the JCee Sounds mixed pairs on Monday (10th), followed by the Harbour View SuperSpar (in-house) mixed 2-4-2 on November 14th. The final competition, prior to closing the green for annual maintenance, is the ‘battle of the sexes’ (in-house) on November 15. The green will be closed from November 17 until further notice.

REMEMBER the next Nomads outing for November and the last for 2014 will be at Riverside this Sunday (9th) at 8.30 for 9am. Thereafter there will be a bring and braai and all bowlers are welcome to come and join the Nomads for a fun-filled afternoon.

CHRIS Forward and Brian and Pam Cole-Cook won last Thursday’s Port Edward SuperSpar mixed trips. Runners-up were Kotie Snyman, Estelle Carter and Amorie Schoeler. Second session went to Dave Banks, Mac McKenzie and Pam Gilson and 50/50 board to Patrick Gillbee.
Winners of the Port Edward Tops men’s pairs played last Sunday were Bob Francis and Aubrey Hood and runners-up were Brian Cole-Cook and Mac McKenzie. Second session went to Joe Ashworth and Louis la Grange and 50/50 went to Hannes du Plessis.
The next sponsored competitions are the Banners Rest mixed trips on November 12, and a reminder that the mixed pairs has been moved from November 14 to November 21.

PORT EDWARD
THE Bosveld Butchery quiz evening was won by team ‘F-Gee’s’ comprising Mike and Eve Gower and Greg and Ruth Fifield. The ‘4 M’ team made up of Tony Smith, Val Smith and Sergio and Pat Ruperto squeaked into second place after a round of sudden death. The response was overwhelming and another quiz evening is definitely on the cards.
If all stays on track, the green will reopen in mid-November, but members will be notified. New bowlers are most welcome and no special clothing or equipment is required during the free trial period. Please contact coach Jokkie van Buuren 039 3111126 or 079 3001770.

WINNERS of the Execudec mixed 2-4-2 were Sharolyn Dacey and Steve O’Moore on a countout from Bill and Nelia Reed. Sessions went to John Sutton and Betty Bolton and to Hein Bester and Rosemary Esterhuysen. 50/50 went to Val Kirkbright.
The next sponsored competitions at the Village for November are the Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips (11th), Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips (13th), Wingnuts Plumbing mixed 2-4-2 on 17th, Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 (20th), and the Execudec mixed 2-4-2 on November 25. The inaugural quiz night held last Friday attracted 84 players who enjoyed a fun evening. Special thanks to sponsor Kerry Loukakis and also the team of helpers who made this such a success.
Hugh and Irene Holland, Pam Cronje and Rosalie Bloom won with 33 points and second prize went to Angie and Doug Butcher, Irma Smook and Margaret Jones on 30 points. Third prize was won by Alan and Carol Tyers, Aileen Ward and Faith Cox on 28 points.
The next RAC draw and bring and braai will be held tomorrow (7th) and the rained-out Fruit & Veg drawn mixed trips is scheduled for this Saturday, November 8.

THE social challenge rematch between MBC and RBC held at Riverside last Wednesday was a huge success and bowlers look forward to the next challenge.
The next sponsored competition is the Cupboard Value open trips on November 12. Kitchen duty – Norma Louw and Olwen Gibbs. ‘Pony Twilight Bowls’ will be held on November 21 from 3pm, followed by a quiz night. The cost is R50 per team of four and a light supper will be available. All are welcome.

THANKS go to Purple Moss t/a Protective Wear in Port Shepstone for the stamp bearing the Hibberdene Bowling Club’s name. The stamp was donated to the bowling club on the first day the club reopened after closing for annual maintenance. The presentation was well attended with three dozen bowlers in attendance, but the game was rained out and postponed until Saturday last week, which was washed out again. Social bowls was eventually played on Sunday. The Hibberdene SuperSpar nominated mixed trips game is tomorrow (7th) at 2pm.

BANKS are slowly coming together and the greens are looking good. The quiz evening will be Friday, November 14 at 6 for 6.30pm and is in aid of the SPCA. Beryl Lakin will once again be quizmaster for the evening.
