From the bowling greens

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

THE KBA executive officially welcomes three new members, namely Geoff and Tina Barbour from The Bell (on a comeback as competition secretaries) and Hans Wijtman from Southbroom. Well done to everyone who played in the seven’s league last week and congratulations to the teams which won their sections and made it to the play-offs.

Munster won the women’s section and Riverside were worthy runners-up. Third place went to Margate ‘C’ and Scottburgh came fourth. The men’s section went to AMBC and runners-up were Banners Rest.

Player’s Association fund-raiser bowls has moved from November 29 to The Bell on December 6 (clubs from Port Shepstone and north) and then at Margate Bowling Club on December 7 (clubs from Riverside and south). Contact Sharolyn Dacey at 082 6824855 (north) and Brenda Smith at 082 4483891 (south).

The Golf Day is confirmed at PSCC for January 31, 2015. Contact Brenda or email her at brendasmith@afrihost.co.za. The 300 Club lists sent to club secretaries need to be filled before the first draw at the next council meeting on January 19. 2015 diaries should be delivered next week.

THE BELL

ENTRIES are required for the 2-4-2 on November 25. The club’s drawn mixed fours is well under way. Christmas lunch information has been posted and the committee needs feedback. Tabs in is played on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, and Sunday mornings. All welcome.

NOMADS

THE Nomads played at Riverside last Sunday and Trevor Anderson, Irene Filmer and Leza Edwards won with 10+7. Mike Davis, Clive Edmunson and Ria Botha won the Orange River Wines sponsored second prize with 8+13 and third prize went to Rennie Geyer, Sharon Scheinberg and Myra Doubell with 8+5. Sportsman prize went to Sandy Davis, Rob Moni and Corrie Malan with 0+9, nearest the jack to Jan Huygen and 50/50 to Sandy Davis.

Vicky de Beer was awarded a badge for twenty years of bowling with Nomads. The next outing will be at Port Edward on January 11, 2015.

RIVERSIDE

CONGRATULATIONS to the women who played in the sevens league last week. Riverside’s ‘A’ team came second and the ‘B’ team came third.

Next sponsored competition is the Fruit and Veg 2-4-2 on November 28. Kitchen duty: Madge Nicolson and Doreen van der Westhuizen. The Pony Twilight Bowls is next Friday (21st) from 3pm followed by a quiz night. All are welcome, the cost is R50 per team of four and a light supper will be available.

THE VILLAGE

THE next sponsored competitions are the Wingnuts Plumbing mixed 2-4-2 (17th), Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 (20th) and the Execudec mixed 2-4-2 (25th). Confirm names with Hazel at 039 3125277.

Rosemary Esterhuysen, Aubrey Watson and Charlotte van Niekerk won the Fruit and Veg drawn mixed trips on a countout from Dave Dawson, Johan van Niekerk and Louise Mann. Third place went to Nelia Reed, Chris Haslam and Alex Reith. The next bingo is on November 21 and boerewors rolls and Russian hot dogs will be on sale.

UMTENTWENI

Umtentweni’s next and final club event before close down next Monday (17th) is the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ this Saturday (15th). This is an in-house competition and the optional dress code is whites, mufti or fancy dress. There is a bring and braai on Sunday at lunch time.

BANNERS REST

WELL done to the Banners Rest men’s sevens league team for reaching the finals and finishing as runners-up to winners AMBC. Congratulations also to the Munster women for winning the women’s event.

Next sponsored events are Port Edward SuperSpar mixed trips on November 19 and Banners Rest mixed pairs on November 21. The AGM takes place in the Breezeway on November 17 at 10am.

PORT EDWARD

PORT Edward opened the new season with the Robin Hood mixed trips last Thursday. The Wally Brass Friendship Cup is this Saturday (15th) at 2pm with a normal tabs-in format and teams will be drawn on the day.

Congratulations to the Banners Rest men who were runners-up and the Munster women who won the KBA sevens league. Duties: November 17-22: bar – Mike Gower; tabs – Marianne van Buuren; tea – Phillipa Rowney; eats: Judith and Roy Simpson (18/11), Elbé and George Snyman (25/11).

MCC

THE penultimate Engel & Volker men’s fours is tomorrow (14th) and ladder standings are still very close. Ken Tonge’s team looks very strong on 143 points, Graham Gold (Munster) – 129 points, Bill Brown (MCC) – 122 points and Barry Christie (Village) – 116 points.

Natalie Herbert will hand out cash prizes amounting to R2 500 at the year’s final event on December 12 and greens close for a few weeks after December 13. The Shelley Beach SuperSpar mixed trips is on November 18. Duties: Eula Greer, Tina Kennaugh and Clive Edmundson.

HIBBERDENE

BRUCE Hoyer, Bernard Carpenter (who turned 70 the week before) and Bubbles Bezuidenhout won last Friday’s competition. Second place went to Roger Burwood, Pauline Howle and Francis Raymond and session prize to Bez Bezuidenhout and John and Judy Hoyer. Thanks to Hibberdene SuperSpar for the generous sponsorship. The next competition is tomorrow, sponsored by Hibberdene Pharmacy.

SOUTHBROOM

IT was wonderful having the green open again and the grass in such good bowling condition. The SPCA quiz evening is tomorrow (14th) at 6 for 6.30pm. Beryl Lakin will be quizmaster and all proceeds go to the SPCA. Congratulations to Southbroom men who represented the club at the sevens league. Bar duty: Philip Lotter.

MUNSTER

CONGRATULATIONS to Munster sevens league players Irene Filmer, Louise Dry, Pat Ruperto, Rita Zietsman (fours) and Penny Hood, Val Smith, Leone Bloem and Daphne Conradie (trips) who won the KBA sevens league last week.

The club’s drawn trips starts on November 15. The green is open. Tabs in are at 1.30 for 2pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Visitors are welcome.
