Gremlins creep in uninvited
THE diaries are out and looking good. There are, of course, always little gremlins that creep in uninvited, so please make a note of the two picked up so far.
The closing date for the midweek league is December 24, 2014 and not the 1st as indicated in the diary.
It may be good to note that the closing date for all competitions is usually one month before the starting date.
Val Smith’s (competition secretary for Munster) mobile number is 072 2997108 and not 082 5495702 so please correct it in your diaries on page 11 as soon as you get them.
A reminder that KBA District Players’ Association’s fund-raisers are at The Bell for the ‘central’ clubs on Saturday and Margate on Sunday for the ‘south’ clubs.
District players are reminded to each bring a plate of eats.
MARGATE CC
THE club enjoyed the annual challenge between the ‘Boertjies’ and ‘Souties’ last Saturday.
This year the ‘Boertjies’ won two of the three trips and also won overall but a truce was declared over a drink afterwards.
The Hair Shoppe women had their last match of the year and the winners of the year’s ladder were Heather Roberts, Dora Vosloo, Annette Coomer and Helen Proctor.
Second were Sheena Absalom, Vicki de Beer, Yvonne van Mentz and Yvonne Bausek.
A special thanks goes to three skips who never missed a game the whole year and consistently brought a team, namely Sheena Absalom (Margate), Marianne van Buuren (Port Edward) and Annette Payne (Margate).
In this month’s event the winners, with a score of 21 + 8, were (unfortunately missing their skip of Heather Roberts), Dora Vosloo, Annette Coomer and Helen Proctor.
Runners-up on 20 + 5 were Jenny Rawlins, Gill Barker, Sheena Dempster and Anne Payne. Winnie Hess won the 50/50 raffle.
The next women’s fours will be on February 6 as the green will be closed for the first two weeks of January.
The Shelly Beach SuperSpar mixed trips was won by Rassie Erasmus, Bruce Coldwells and Martiens Olivier with a score of 4+8.
Runners-up were Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Chris Abram on 4+5. The session prize went to Gary Hess, Arthur Orr and Bill Parfitt with 2+11. Bruce Coldwells won the 50/50.
The final of the men’s fours will be held on December 12.
RIVERSIDE
THE winners of the Hopden’s Kwikspar 2-4-2 were Rassie Erasmus and Gordon Ogilvie on 4+14.
Olwen Gibbs and Bruce Coldwells were runners-up on 4+10.
First session prize was awarded to Adrianna Peens and Attie Ackerman on 2+18.
Johan and Doreen van der Westhuizen took second session on 2+7.
Riverside is hosting a Christmas pantomime and three-course supper on December 19 and 20.

SOUTHPORT
TAKING the laurels in the South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 played on November 13 were Jacques Snyman and Sheenagh Dempster with Keith Mills and Tammy Gibbons as runners-up.
Session prize went to Peet van Rooyen and Susan Fourie.
The Harbour View SuperSpar men’s trips played was won by Alan Jacobson, Duncan Randall and Hew Hodgson. Runners-up were Barry Delvin, Keiron Dacey and Steve O’Moore.
Session prize went to Peet van Rooyen, Geoff Barbour and Kevin Mullen.
The Fruit & Veg City in house pairs was won by Cosmos Gumede and Martie Human. Runners-up were Ted Pownell and Werner Mody. Session prize went to Ron Rudden and Marilyn Sinclair.
The Southport Service Station mixed pairs was won by Jacques and Jan Snyman and Sheenagh Dempster.
Runners-up were Geoff Kelleher, Jane Massam and Cosmos Gumede.
The Christmas lunch will be on December 16.
THE BELL
CONGRATULATIONS to Duncan and Margie Randall, Desiree and Barry Krause who won the KBA mixed fours competition and to Barry Delvin, Daphne Sapsford, Mada Lindeque and Charles Murgatroyd who came second.
Hew Hodgson, Johannie Theron, Willy Knott and Val Boshoff are the club drawn mixed fours champions.
The mixed trips, sponsored by The Bell, was won by Gary le Brasse, Rita Dommett and Willy Knott. Second were Alan Mandy, Ethne Holding and Abe Basson.
The session prize was won by Jody Slade, Martin and Lyn Frizelle.
The Venture Inn/Jaxx open trips will be played on December 9 and the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours on December 12.
Donations are needed for the Christmas hamper raffle to be drawn on December 16.
VILLAGE
WINNERS of the last Execudec mixed 2-4-2 for this year were Yvonne James and Hazel Hosken on a count out from Bill and Nelia Reed.
Sessions went to Nora Hill and Dereck Schoorn and to Brian and Nancy Hughes. Rosemary Esterhuysen won the 50/50.
The weather played the game for last Saturday’s bowls when a bring and share was held after the game.
The RAC draw, followed by a bring and braai, will be held tomorrow (December 5). Don’t forget the Christmas lunch at 12.30 this Sunday, December 7 when the Christmas hamper winners will be drawn.
The greens are now closed until the new year, but the club will still be open on Wednesdays and Fridays between 4pm and 6pm.
BANNERS REST
THE Banners Rest women’s pairs, to be played on Wednesday, November 26 was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Winners of the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs played last Sunday were Leigh Warner and Hannes du Plessis.
Runners-up were Bob Francis and Aubrey Hood, and second session went to Andreas van der Linde and Steve Rennie. The 50/50 board also went to Steve Rennie.
Next year’s diaries have arrived and are available from Baba du Plessis.
The green is now closed, with the first competition of the 2015 season the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs on February 1.

WINNERS of the mixed trips, sponsored by High Rock Restaurant, were Graham and Anjie Gold and Martiens Zietsman.
Runners-up were Albert and Eileen van der Lith and Rick Harding.
Second session winners were Hedley Meek, Sergio and Pat Ruperto. Board went to Patrick Gilbee.
Drawn mixed trips winners were Piet Heunis, Val Smith and Margaret Moakes.

UMTENTWENI
WELL done to the team of Steve Doran, Astrid Jackson, Tony Aveyard and Tammy Gibbons on flying the club flag high and finishing fourth in the recent KBA mixed fours competition.
Members are advised that a ‘sit down’ Christmas lunch will be held at the club on December 13.

PORT EDWARD
TIAGO’S open trips was won by Barry Payn, Trish Steyn and Phillipa Rowney. Mike Davis, Sandy Davis and Arthur Ronaldson were runners-up.
The Video Plus DVD mixed pairs winners were Graham and Anjie Gold. Barry and Phillipa were once again in the prizes as runners-up. Llew Angus and Val Smith won the session prize.

THE last Criss-Cross Security open trips, played last Thursday, was won by Barry Payn, Trish Steyn and Rob Lyle. Runners-up were Aubrey Hood, Steve and Jenny Rennie.

THE last round for this year of the Bowls Business Challenge will take place this Friday afternoon. To play, contact Murray Ross or Brian Rawlins.
The annual Champagne Breakfast Roll is sponsored this year by Warwick Wealth. This will take place on the morning of Tuesday, December 16.

MARGATE BC
IT is with deep regret that the club reports the death of John Norman, aged 92. John was a longstanding member and a thorough gentleman.
He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Deepest sympathy goes to his family, who travelled from all over the world to be at his funeral, and his many friends.Winners of the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 last Friday were Alan and Alison Dinning on 4+24. Runners-up were Shane Nienaber and Greg Bowden on 4+24.
Session prizes went to Ron Canning and Yvonne Bausek, as well as Mike and Sandy Davies.
The next quiz will be held at the clubhouse on December 10 at 6.30am.
The Christmas lunch will be held on December 14. Sunday morning bowls is played in mufti and everyone is welcome to come and join in.

THE monthly drawn mixed trips, sponsored by the Jolly Roger, was won by Danie Human, Miriam Seager and Joey Venter.

Bookings are still available for the Christmas dinner on December 13.
