‘Electric’ effort from on-road racers
The local club more than held its own against the bigger clubs.
THE final leg of four for 2014 has been completed for electric on-road racing in the province. It took place at DMCC in Durban recently, where wet weather prevailed and racing started late.
Nimrod Maritz dominated the Mini Chassis class. He qualified in first place and in the finals he led from start to finish.
In the Super Stock and Grand Touring Modified, he finished third. Jeff de Winnaar qualified second for TT01 Stock, but had a bit of bad luck in the final and finished fourth.
Dwaine de Winnaar’s cars were fast, but consistency cost him a podium finish.
The end of year trophies were handed out and Banana County Racing Club finished in second place for 2014, which was an excellent achievement for a small club.
Nimrod was the KZN champion for Mini-Chassis. John Nunes, one of the club’s newer members, excelled by being named as the KZN champion for TT01 Stock.
Nimrod finished second for the year in Super Stock and fourth in Grand Touring. Garth Scott finished in second place for GT 1/10 Pan and Tristan Baxter finished third in GT 1/10 Pan for the year.
Jeff de Winnaar finished third for the year in Touring Modified.
