South Coasters trump district rivals

The local team produced some surprises.

MARK Hannaway put a team together from the South Coast and played in the KZN districts tournament at Westridge Park last Sunday.
They played against Durban Central in the morning and beat them.
“We had lunch and then played the winners of the other section, Midlands. We beat them and so were the winners of the winners’ section which made us champs of the day,” said Mark.
He thanked all the players in the team for being prepared to play in the tournament, and for their good sportsmanship during play.
He also thanked Lindsay North for running the tournament.

ISABEAU le Roux filled in for the duty person at Umtentweni Tennis Club last Saturday and did a sterling job of organising the sets, giving everyone a wide variety of play, as well as providing tasty treats for tea.
As she is still not able to play because of her broken finger, her commitment is really appreciated by all members and they hope that she will soon be able to get back on the courts.
In some exciting news, Michael Strydom, a former member of the club, is now head coach of the men’s and women’s teams at Wartburg College, Waverley, Iowa in the USA.
Members are proud of the fact that he is a ‘product’ of Tweni Tennis Club!
Raj Naganna, keeping Tweni’s flag flying high round the country, will be going off to various veterans’ tournaments from next weekend onwards and members wish him the best of luck.
Subs are now due, please get them in to Isabeau as soon as possible.
Members wish Cathy Barker a very happy birthday on the 17th and look forward to her regular visits to the club in the coming year.
It was lovely to see Jill and Ronnie Badenhorst at the club last week. Hopefully Jill’s knee will soon heal enough for her to be back playing tennis.
Your crafty shots have been missed by all of us, Jill, and we’ll have to develop a whole new mindset when you return!
Saturday duty: 14 Raj Naganna; 21 George van der Merwe.
