So who’s your favourite?

It's time for the fans to show their true colours.

PLEASE understand, this article is very biased.

Of the top eight, these are my favourites, in order.

1. South Africa. That goes without saying. The suspense of not knowing when we will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is almost too much. I always say I won’t watch, but of course I will.

2. West Indies. My favourite underdog. I just feel sorry for them. Once great, now in a shambles, both on and off the field. The exciting bit about watching them is that one or two of their players could spark, and then the fun starts.

3. New Zealand. Only because they have also not been able to make a World Cup final of any description (other than rugby of course). They’re a lot like us. Gutsy. Try hard. And often beaten by Australia. So we have all that in common.

4. Sri Lanka. Look, they’ve won both versions of cricket’s World Cups, so I shouldn’t feel too bad for them. But they’re an interesting lot with names that very few have a chance of saying right after a certain number of beers.

5. Pakistan. Who would want to be a Pakistani supporter? You just never know which team is going to pitch up on the day. But fun to watch, especially when they start taking wickets.

6. England. In my opinion, they’re the whiners of world cricket. It’s as though they feel they have a right to win just by arriving. Could be an Empire thing. A bit harsh perhaps. I think they will produce a few surprises this year.

7. Australia. The thought of the Aussies winning again (it would be their fifth trophy) is too ghastly to contemplate. But they do have some exciting players and will be seriously difficult to overcome. Might as well prepare myself early for the inevitable.

8. India. I don’t like it when a team defends a World Cup, unless it’s South Africa. And I also don’t like the way everything is centred around them because of money. But I do like watching Kohli bat.
