Melissa comes close

It was a promising start to the season.

MELISSA Eaton of Port Shepstone Country Club almost won the Sun International Ladies’ Challenge at Lost City this week.

She was pipped by seasoned professional Stacy-Lee Bregman by just one shot.

“I knew I needed to find something to pull away from Melissa, but the putts wouldn’t drop. I lipped out for a birdie at the 14th and shaved the edge of the hole for another miss at 15 but, at the 16th, I finally knocked in a six-footer for birdie to pull one shot clear,” said Stacy-Lee.

In trying to catch the leader and go for the green in two, Melissa knocked her approach to the par five 18th finish in the reeds.

She had to take a penalty drop but still managed to save par. Melissa carded a pair of 73s to Stacy-Lee’s 71 and 74.

Port Shepstone amateur Lizzie Currie was also in the field. She carded 85 and 80.
