Valentine’s tennis with a twist at Uvongo
There was an element of the unpredictable.
THE Valentine’s Day round robin and braai which followed at Uvongo Tennis Club was a great success.
A change in the format was made with players ‘drawing cards’ between games with a variety of negative or positive instructions; e.g. you have been awarded two advantage points or, you start your game with one negative point, etc.
At the end of play Gloria Larkan was the ‘loser’, having accumulated a negative result, and Jan Kajaan the ‘winner’ with the most number of positive points.
Red clothing was worn by all but one player and she was unfortunately hit on the nose by a ball – fortunately gently, so had a bit of a red nose.
It was great to have Gloria Danckwerts join in the braai at the end of play.
The committee would appreciate feedback from the players as to their feelings on the day or suggestions as to other forms of play which would encourage members to enter, play and have fun.
Both Ralph Burls and Carlos Araujo have returned from injury while Deon Burgers has decided not to undergo the surgery planned.
