Day 8: Wash out for Australia

The rain was a bonus for Bangladesh.

THE big weather system that swept across the eastern coast of Australia put paid to the lowly-anticipated match between Australia and Bangladesh at the ‘Gabba.

The teams shared the points, which means that Australia now must beat New Zealand later in the competition to top the pool, providing both teams beat everyone else in the pool, as is expected.

England and Sri Lanka won’t have been too excited about that result, as if now gives Bangladesh the opportunity of sneaking into the quarter-finals if they slip up, which looks quite likely.

Meanwhile, in the other game, the highly unpredictable West Indies gave the equally highly unpredictable Pakistan a proper beating.

At one stage, Pakistan had only one run on the board and four men out, setting a new record for rubbish batting.

West Indies’ revival was led by Andre Russell, a man who sports a hairstyle that looks like it belongs on some dubious gang member somewhere.

Still, it seems to work for him and he hit sixes and took wickets.

Pakistan can at least say the fastest bowler is in their camp, with Wahab Riaz shooting down thunderbolts at around the 154km/h mark.

Most still go to the boundary but no one seems to care, as long as it’s quick.
