Ski-boat fishermen bait up in Hibberdene
The popular annual Ski-boat Club Game Fish Compo at Hibberdene last week was certainly a crowd pleaser.
REGISTRATION for the annual Hibberdene Ski-boat Club Game Fish Compo kicked off last Friday afternoon in spite of the heavy winds and huge swells. Twenty-eight boats signed up to brave the big seas and since this was a game fish competition, anglers had their game plan together in order to win the grand prize of R10 000 in cash. Launch sites were Hibberdene, Mtwalume and Injambili.
Rain, rough seas and windy conditions resulted in a bumpy start to the event last Saturday. Anglers were up early, the weather was a little better and the majority of the fleet was able to launch.
Fishing on Sunday proved successful with some good fish on the scales. At the prize-giving at the club lapa on Sunday afternoon, the biggest fish of the day was a couta caught by Jaques Scheepers. The crowd cheered as the fish weighed in at a whopping 18,55kg. Jaques won R10 000 in cash for his effort.

In second place with a couta of 16,15kg was Gideon Potgieter, who won himself a cool R5 000 in cash, while Mathew Defilippi took home the third prize of R4 500 in cash after he came in with a 15,40kg couta.
A bring and braai took place after the prize-giving.
