Ron, Zinnia win round robin
SOUTHBROOM Tennis Club played a very exciting mixed doubles round robin last Sunday.
Ron Stirling again organised the event perfectly – including the fabulous sunny weather!
The winner in the men’s section was Ron Stirling on 27 points, two runners-up on 22 points each were Carel Kruger and Terry Jackson.
Zinnia Freitas was the winner in the women’s section on 21 points with Luise Mohr runner-up on 19 points.
The event was sponsored by the Waffle House in Ramsgate.
Although our 2015 club championships have not started yet, the men’s single event was played ahead of the official event.
The very exciting final was played between Simon Lee and Carel Kruger with Simon taking this year’s champion title!
Tweni members mourn Wendy
UMTENTWENI Tennis Club members are sorry to hear that Wendy Donaldson died recently.
Condolences go to her family at this sad time. Wendy was a stalwart member of the club for many years.
Grant Wood brought eats with a difference last Saturday – ‘open sandwiches’ which had ‘kaas vir krag’ on them and delicious banana cakes.
Thanks go to Chloe Dutton for her sterling effort in clearing the wall garden of weeds and unwanted aliens.
Thanks, too, to Mervyn Tarboton and helpers who chopped down the dead tree in the bush above the courts as this was posing a threat to cars parked up at the top should it fall down.
Members who have not yet paid their subs for 2015 are requested to do so without delay as they are now seriously overdue! Please get them to Isabeau le Roux asap.
Once again, inclement weather has prevented the contractor from completing the bottom courts so they are still out of action for a couple of weeks or so.
