NEVER mind the golf, the 12th annual Southbroom Ladies’ Classic was a three-day show, where fun, fashion and laughter were the order of the day.
The weather played the game, and the 156 golfers had a fabulous time.
Defending champions Lorraine Cook and Janice Lang, both of Southbroom, produced a ‘Tiger’ – ie: winning by miles – to retain the crown easily.
They scored a sensational 153 points over the three rounds to win by 21 points from Sandy Fitzgerald and Gill Huddy, also of Southbroom.
The best dressed team were Helene Linder and Rhona Topka, followed by Margie Bonini and Candida Amm.
Others who came close were Noelene Ross and Karen Chandler, Jenny Holford and Sarajane Bartlett, Jenny Beron and Sheree Lloyd, Brenda Shimmon and Sue Phillips, as well as Ina Sanders and Petro Ooshuizen.
Southbroom pro Derek James, who starred in the Sunday night show ‘Grease’, reckoned it was as good a tournament as they’ve had.
“The women went to town, and looked stunning. The fashion was such a huge part of it. It was a great showpiece for the South Coast and we got lucky with the weather,” he said.
He did have some travails, though. “Doing the draw for the final round in a hurry was a challenge, and getting into those skinny jeans even more so!”
