THE grand opening of Umtentweni Tennis Club’s newly resurfaced courts went very well with Peggy “Twinkle-toes Lobster” Igesund cutting the ribbon at one gate and Mervyn “Cutter” Tarboton at the other.
Everyone enjoyed playing on the new surface and Anne Payn brought delicious sarmies and a jam tart which were supplemented with chocolate cake and milk tart brought by Liesl Smith, Raj Naganna’s famous chilli bites and mouth-watering pizzas from Alfons van der Galien from Casa Mia. Thank you all for making this day so special.
The braai afterwards was well-attended and thanks go to the women for providing salads and garlic bread to go with the braai. It was good to see Theol Wood at the club again, too.
Members are sorry to hear that Cathy Barker had a mishap and hope that she will soon be well again.
Douglas Mitchell ‘Green’ had a resounding victory over Umtentweni ‘Blue’ last Saturday.
Well played, DMG, and many thanks for your hospitality and for accommodating us earlier than the scheduled time to enable us to get back to Tweni for the opening ceremony.
Jill Badenhorst’s knee is healing slowly but it will be some time before she’ll be back on the courts.
Condolences go to Jill and her husband, Ronnie whose mother died last week followed by their much-loved dog over the weekend.
Saturday duty: May 23 – Isabeau le Roux; May 30 – Dan Dimitriu.
