Petrol heads experience thrills at Gas Motor Show
The show had visitors entranced with a grand motoring spectacle.
SUPER cars and bikes, classic to modern, bike stunt events and drifting formed part of the sights and sounds at the Gas Motor Show at Dezzi Raceway last weekend. More than 10 000 people attended the two day festival and sentiments from most of them were similar: ‘It was a one of a kind motoring festival!’
The action-packed line-up thrilled families. Some of the country’s top drifters displayed their talents and the rubber burning action got under way with SA’s current SupaDrift championship point leader Jim McFarlane. He, together with his fellow drifters, tore up the tar with a high-speed tandem drift show. Their antics went a leap further by inviting fans to step into the cockpit for a ride on a professional drift track.

While the track boiled, the sky was alight with motorcycles. SA’s own The Le Riche Brothers, Brent and Bruce (currently ranked second and fourth in the US) showed their extreme bike trial and stunt duo skills.
The Wicked Dips Show ‘n Shine and IASCA dyno and sound off, presented by The Powerflow Exhaust Zone, allowed fans to get up close to hundreds of the most beautiful cars from around the province, all vying for top eye and ear candy honours. Supercar Club IBV provided much talk with 20 of KZN’s best supercars on display.
To keep the young ones more than entertained, Epic Go Karting laid on a full outdoor karting track alongside mini radio controlled drift cars by RC Drifting and racing simulators by TGN Simulators, to give children and their dads a feel of what it is like to slide and drive. A massive children’s action zone, featuring face painting, glitter tattoos, a climbing wall, gyro, rodeo bull and loads of inflatables, kept youngsters well entertained.

To complete the family fun, the Gas Motor Show Pop-up Cinema, which seated 75 people, had young and old enjoying blockbuster movies such as Fast ‘n Furious and Gone in 60 Seconds. For mum, a unisex spa provided foot massages and pedicures. For those most interested in man versus machine, SA’s strongest men raced against the clock to pull five tons of cold steel in the strongman contest. Tummies were taken care of by a full food and catering suite, including a Spur mobile food vendor.
