College cricketers to fly to Sri Lanka
The boys are looking forward to picking up a bunch of wickets.
IF the national cricket team is wondering where its next crop of young quicks is coming from they may want to keep an eye on what the South Coast is producing.
David Small and Bryce Allchin, who are both at Maritzburg College, have been selected for the school’s first cricket team to tour Sri Lanka to play in the Premier Schools Cricket Challenge this month.
They will be flying out on June 24.
David, the son of Greg and Karen Small, is a prefect at College and opens the bowling.
Bryce, the son of Roger and Kelly Allchin, is in Grade 11 and is also a fast bowler, who is sometimes called upon to take the new ball.
It’s a superb achievement and a great experience for the boys. As far as primary schools go, David attended Izotsha and Bryce went to Creston.
The boys are selling raffle tickets to raise money for the tour.
Tickets cost R50 each and the prizes includes a weekend getaway to watch the Springboks play the All Blacks in Johannesburg on July 25.
The trip includes flights, two nights’ twin accommodation, plus entry into ‘Cutting it with Blades’ rugby show with Hugh Bladen.
