THERE were some good fish and great seas over the past week, with a few thin pockets of sardines passing by.
They were very difficult to spot due to the slightly off-colour water.
Lots of netting took place further up the coast, probably due to the cleaner water there.
It’s been great that the sardines have been here, as evidenced last Sunday, when a large pocket moved past.
They moved extremely slowly, until Mark Snyman and his crew chased them to the point where they were not allowed to net (they had reached the conservancy).
Well done to them for respecting the conservancy laws.
There have been shad in abundance, with mixed sizes being caught everywhere.
Cliff Barry caught a respectable 3.2kg shad on one of the local beaches.
Sharks have been everywhere. All deep water points are catching 90-140kg male raggies and the odd flat fish and strip fish-bronze whalers.
Margate pier has had the best action decent-fish-wise.
The owner of Anglers World, Frans van Meyeren, got a salmon of about 24kg off Margate pier.
There have been garrick around, plus some geelbek as well.
