IT was the ultimate test of strength and stamina in the South Coast Strongman competition held at the Lions’ Show last week Saturday.
Terrence Viviers of Matatiele won the title and is the current under 90kg South African deadlift record holder. Senzo Mbambo, who trains at Superbodies Gym, Port Shepstone claimed second place.
The event, comprised of four categories, was dominated by Terrence who won three of them.

He won the deadlift section which entailed competitors doing as many repetitions as possible for a minute, then the ‘tyre flip’ where competitors had to flip a 260kg tyre between two points, a distance of 20 metres.
Terrence then claimed first place in the gruelling ‘sandbag’ event, carrying five sandbags (four of the bags weighed 50kg and the last one 100kg) for a distance of 10m and load them onto a trailer in the shortest time.
The ‘car pull’ event certainly got the crowd cheering and this was won by Senzo who had the fastest time, pulling a bakkie with a harness for some 30 metres.
Selvan Naidoo, personal trainer of Superbodies Gym, Port Shepstone, organised the successful event and prizes were sponsored by Kulu Crete, Jayile Civils, Superbodies Port Shepstone and Margate and Golden Glo.
