SMG South Coast reaches out for a worthy cause
SMG South Coast is actively involved in many community projects throughout the year.
SMG South Coast embarked on its customary annual Nelson Mandela Day Charity Drive recently.
This time the team went to the Ntokozweni Village for the Vulnerable in Izingolweni.
The village is a non-profit, non-political Christian organisation founded in 1997 by the late Enock Sthembiso Nkonyeni.
It provides care, love and support for not only the aged, but to orphaned and vulnerable children and people at risk of HIV/Aids.
The village is a home to 39 elderly people, and also has a crèche which currently has 65 children.
SMG South Coast identified this village, and with the help of Ugu District Municipality and South Coast Tourism, and other partners, intends establishing a youth programme for the community and two income-generating projects for the village, in terms of agriculture and poultry.
Various partners got involved to provide the village with geysers, a gas stove, a television, a dvd player for the crèche, paint, food parcels, clothes, books, toys and more.
Ugu mayor Ntombifikile Gumede thanked the Ntokozweni Village founders and staff for the work they do.
Sean McCarthy (managing director of the SMG Group) and Darren Staats (SMG South Coast dealer principal) and the mayor happily assisted in handing out toys, books and goodie bags to the children.
The aim of the drive in July, Mandela Month, is so that ‘every day can be a Mandela Day’.
