MARGATE Bowling Club is looking forward to hosting the prestigious two-day 10th Doug Watson Memorial Classic on September 19 and 20.
With R30 000 in prize money, this is possibly the biggest tournament in terms of sponsorship to be hosted on the South Coast.
Doug Watson was a legend and one of the all-time greats in South African lawn bowls. He swept the boards in the 1976 World Bowls Tournament and went on to win just about every SA bowls title from singles to fours and taking the Masters title a record five times in six years.
At this special legacy tournament ‘golden boys’, Kevin Campbell and Bill Moseley, members of the victorious SA 1976 bowls team will be special guests as will Roger Hagerty and Derrick Lobban, who won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games for disabled bowlers.
