Riemers win Southbroom Mixed Classic … and other golf news

THE Southbroom Mixed Classic, presented by Pharaohs Construction, was held last weekend and by all accounts was a wonderful event.

There were full fields, sunny skies, a beautiful golf course and fantastic sponsors. Sure, there was some wind but that just makes for challenging golf.

Scoring was close with Mike and Bev Riemer holding their nerve when leading after Day 1.

They made 41 points in the Saturday Greensomes and 41 points in the betterball Stableford on Sunday which was enough for a two point win over the youngsters, Darren Ovenstone and Lizzie Currie.

Thank you to Joy Crutchfield, Rene Matthew and their team of women for all their work, as well as to Irene and Erwin Schanda, who did an amazing job on the clubhouse.

Deanne Purtell and Lauren Curlewis decorated the clubhouse with the Out of Africa theme, which was quite stunning.

Thanks to all the sponsors, in particular Marthinus du Plessis of Pharaohs Construction (overall sponsor), Ettiene du Plessis from Homes 100, who also roped in many of the hole sponsors, Midea Airconditioning, and Cemair.

Ugu South Coast Tourism also came to the party in terms of sponsorship.
