Swimmers go to great lengths
Young (and some old) swimmers displayed impressive fitness levels.
THE Blue Oceans Aquatics (BOA) Swimathon took place in bright sunshine (for the most part) at Creston College last Saturday morning.
The atmosphere was festive and the swimming enjoyed by all, even some parents who were roped in to swim by their enthusiastic children.BOA coach and organiser Mandy Koegelenberg thanked the sponsors, and everyone else who played a role in making the day such a success.
First place in the open category went to team Aquazone from Durban (112 laps), while Dream Team from Margate Swimming Club came second (107 laps).
Third place went to team Falcodor Estates from Blue Ocean Aquatics (104 laps).
In the U11 category, Flying Fish managed 42 laps, Kings and 1 Queen 35 laps, and Minions Team 32 laps.
BOA is a non-profit swim club and the event was held to help raise funds for pool heating during the winter months.
There were two categories in the swimathon, 10 years and under requiring the team to be in action for 30 minutes, while those 11 years and older had to swim for one hour. Any stroke could be swum.
The 50m lap could also be walked or doggie-paddled. Laps completed within the allocated time were counted and winners selected on the most completed.
