Rugby 7s showdown soon

It's time to release the gas men!

THE Nashua South Coast 7s gets under way at Douglas Mitchell Sports Club this Saturday, February 27.

Sixteen teams from across the province, and some even further afield, will be in action.

They will be split into four groups of four, with the top teams progressing to the knockout stage.

Group A: Nashua Warriors, Ladysmith 2, Scottburgh, Amangesha.

Group B: Letaba, Pinetown, Ballito 2, Status Warriors.

Group C: South Coast Crusaders, Ladysmith 1, Amamzimtoti, Kapaailand.

Group D: Ripa Rebels, Ballito 1, Kokstad, Gamalakhe.

The Warriors will have three teams in action on the day, as follows.

Nashua Warriors: Ben Oosthuizen, Juandré Koekemoer, Dawie Durrheim, Karel van Rooyen, Renaldo Brierley, Juan van den Berg (c), Chris Mitchell, Jaques Petzer-Moore, Tienie Viljoen, Marcell Sass, Arnold Kruger, Kayd du Toit, Ryan Elliot and Donovon Horn.

Status Warriors: Eben Botha (c), Jeandré Coetzee, Lourens Stapelberg, Vincent Fibiger, De Wet Dirksen, Dylan Rust, Brendon Rademeyer, Jeandré Labotski, Jurie Geldenhuys, Tiaan Gericke, Theo Nicholls, Jaco Rademeyer, David van Zyl, Pieter Smith and Tian Malherbe.

South Coast Crusaders: Ignus Verster, Siphiwe Zulu, MG Roscher, Ayanda Nkaqa, Gary Dunstone (c), Bailey Hart, Marius Nell, Jean-Henri du Preez, Dane Wastie, Derek Horlock, Johan Venter, Wayne Bernard.

The Nashua Warriors are the team to beat, having won last year, while the other two local teams have a combination of youth and experience and could spring a few surprises.

It promises to be a day of entertaining rugby, with other fun activities planned for the whole family. The rugby starts early and the final will be played in the late afternoon.
