Slick start to indoor hockey league

The South Coast Marlins can look forward to a highly successful national tournament in December.

THE opening round of the Pro Series Indoor hockey got off to an electrifying start at Port Shepstone High last Sunday.

There were a total of 12 teams that took part, with each team playing two games making it a total of 12 games for the day.

The games were 13 minutes each, with a two minute halftime and a two minute turnaround between games, resulting in constant action throughout the day.

Dale Esselaar, franchise owner of South Coast Marlin PSI, said that players quickly learned the rules of indoor hockey which was being played for the first time by many of them.

“After the nerves had settled, the standard of hockey was raised and it became very pleasing to watch. If the standard of hockey in the opening round is anything to go by I think that the South Coast Marlins can look forward to a highly successful national tournament in December and will be serious contenders for medals in each age group,” he said.
