World Cup Series beckons for swimmer Samantha
The talented swimmer will need some funding to make the trip possible.
THIS past week saw the South African Short Course (25m) swimming championships take place in Pietermaritzburg, with many of the South African Olympic swimmers coming to compete as it was the trials for the World Short Course Championships.
The level of swimming was very high for the men and competitive for the women as well, with three women swimmers making the qualifying times to go to World Short Course Champs in Canada.
Samantha Labuschagne and Michelle Kretzschmar, both members of Blue Ocean Aquatics swimming club, competed and both swam personal best times in their events.
Samantha was able to make it to the semi-finals and finals for her respective events.
She won her first national open medal by placing third in the women’s 100m freestyle event.
This result places her third in the country over all age groups. This shows that with hard work and dedication one is able to achieve great results.
With Samantha performing so well at this meet, she and her coach Mandy Koegelenberg have decided to compete internationally by going to the Middle East leg of the World Cup Series in Dubai and Doha in October.
For the next moth there will be lots of hard training and fine-tuning of Samantha’s swimming and racing to get her ready to compete on an international stage.
However with this kind of step up to the global arena, it requires funds and the club is looking for sponsorship to help them cover their costs to get there.

Michelle improved on her two events by 11.83 seconds and is looking forward to her making senior national qualifying times.
Samantha made finals in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle where she placed seventh in the country.
