Local enduro riders at South Coast Bike Fest

LOCAL stars will be among the top South African enduro, motocross and trial riders revving up the crowds at the South Coast Bike Fest in Margate from April 27 to 30.

This festival will culminate in non-stop performances by the Powasol team in the first round of the Powasol EnduroX Series, to be held under the auspices of Motorsport South Africa at the Margate fishing pier venue on the Sunday from 7am to 3pm.

The track will be constructed by MX star, Brett Redman. While professionals will be on the starting line, the event will also cater for intermediate and fun riders and for bikes ranging from 85cc to 500cc.

Big-name riders include locals Wade Young, a former Roof of Africa winner and a Sherco Factory Rider, Kyle Flanagan and Blake Gutzeit of Proudly Bidvest Yamaha and Scott Bouverie of Brother Leadertread KTM.

One of the youngest riders taking part will be Noah Maartens, who hails from Matatiele.

“Enduro racing is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. We look forward to this event being a huge success,” said South Coast Tourism chief executive Justin Mackrory

Blake, who is currently leading the SuperEnduro Junior World Championship and Wade, another local rider well worth watching, are both looking forward to riding in front of a home crowd.

Young and enthusiastic Noah is a Powasol brand ambassador who is considered a rising star. He will compete in the Junior Roof of Africa in September.

“I sleep, eat and dream bikes,” he said.

Finally, KTM Durban will sponsor a bike and kit for another South Coast local, Piwe Zulu from Gamalakhe. Although he has only been riding for six years, he shows great promise and is looking forward to showing off his technical skills at the South Coast Bike Fest.
