Herald Fishing: Manus is champion, Anthony takes the hot seat
The next year of bass angling is going to be filled with exciting fishing.
NEW champions were honoured and a new committee elected at the South Coast Bass Association’s 29th annual general meeting last Friday night.
Manus Erasmus stood down as chairman after five years and congratulated new chairman Anthony Card on his election.

Ferro van Greunen was re-elected as vice-chairman, Koos Bronkhorst as weighmaster and Joggie de Winnaar as treasurer.
The heaviest bag champion for 2017 was Manus, followed by Shawn Stewart and Ferro.
Biggest bass was caught by Ferro, followed by Thys Hoffman and Hennie Ferreira.
A new competition, called ‘Beat the Pros’ will see anglers invited to compete against the SCBA’s bassmasters. Watch the press for details.
New initiatives will also be introduced for the preservation and conservation of bass.
* The Shelly Beach Mercury Ski-Boat Festival takes place from July 11 to 15.
Top prize is two 150-horse power four stroke Mercury motors worth R400 000. Entry forms are available at the ski-boat club or from its website.
Weigh-in takes place at the clubhouse every day from 2pm and guests can enjoy the traditional fish braais daily, throughout the competition.
Albert Meyer Road will be closed from Eden Dunes to Breakers view from July 11, midnight, until July 15 at 5pm.
It will only be open to permit-holding residents and vehicles towing a boat. Permits are available from the ski-boat club until July 10 at 2pm.
Shad are still on the run. Lots of anglers have been catching shad from Hibberdene all the way through to Splash Rocks in Port Edward.
Some decent size garrick have been caught at Margate pier. Anglers still getting good size kob, rock cod and yellow fin kingfish.
A small pocket shoal of sardines was spotted just off Uvongo on Sunday. Lots of chases with game fish.
