Take revenge and shoot the referee
A wide variety of fun activities, inside and outside, have been planned.
IF you really love rugby, there’s a chance you’ve yelled at the TV screen during a big game, seriously questioning the referee’s IQ and hurling abuse in his direction.
Now you can get your own back on the whistlemen, with an opportunity to ‘shoot’ one… and all for a worthy cause.

Douglas Mitchell Sports Club will host a Family Fun Day on Saturday, July 22 in order to raise much-needed funding for the Southern KZN Rugby Referees’ Society.
These refs do an already difficult job, and go well above and beyond the basic minimum to officiate at games, often played in far-flung regions late at night.
Costs to get to these games are an issue, following budget cuts, so that’s what this day is all about – looking after these men who play such a crucial role in the game in our region.
Quintin Janse van Rensburg is one local ref making big strides in the game, and is currently on duty at Craven Week.
Former South Coast rugby development officer, Willton Mtshali is another from this area who is going places with the whistle since his move to Johannesburg in August last year.
He was spotted on the sidelines for SA Rugby in the match against France on June 24, and is also officiating at Craven Week as an assistant referee.
Aside from having a shot at a local ref with a paintball gun – he’ll be running around in an enclosure of sorts – there’ll be all kinds of other exciting action on the day.
Paintball guns will be supplied at the event. Entrance fee is R10 or free if you bring an item to donate to the tombola table.
You are welcome to advertise and promote your business as you wish for as little as R500 for the whole day.
Costs to enter the various events are minimal, only R5, in order to give everyone a chance to enter and win prizes.
This promises to be a fun-filled day with 38 different games for everyone, young and old. Even disabled people can join in and have fun with the games.
These range from tug of war, sack races, water balloon toss, arm wrestling and more.
Another highlight will be Giel Minnie’s Mini 7s, overseen by the Southern KZN Referees’ Society, from 10am.
The Big Ball Kick-off will see contestants try to kick a rugby ball into a bin from set distances.

There’ll be Prison Break, where anyone can pay the ‘judge’ R20 to send guards to arrest whoever you have nominated to spend 10 minutes in ‘prison’.
The hugely popular Win It In a Minute contests will also be on the go. These are short events but a lot of people can play at the same time in a small space. Great fun.

They now need to beat Jaguars with a bonus point at Douglas Mitchell Sports Club this Friday (14th) and hope UKZN Impis can beat the Rhinos from Empangeni.
Kick-off for the first team game is at 8pm.
