Herald Fishing: Game fish chase the sardines
The tuna seem to have taken a liking to the brighter coloured lures.
FISHING will surely start pumping as the sardines move north along the coast.
As soon as the water settles it will be full of boats and anglers trying for the game fish that are hunting the sardines.
Hibberdene to Port Edward has had seen a fair share of action with various species landed on live baits.

Garrick have been caught at Margate pier, Uvongo pier and Orange Rocks. A decent-sized tuna was landed at Orange Rocks recently.
Another one, of about 25kg, was lost in the process of being picked up onto Margate pier.
With the sardines that have moved through and been netted, bigger species and gamefish have been landed, mostly on fresh sardine baits.
Anglers are still getting a few good catches of grunter and kob on the Sandspit in Port Shepstone.

In terms of deep sea, fishing has recently started picking up with reports of most of the targeted species being caught.
Couta, tuna, snoek, daga salmon and geelbek have been boated this past week.

Couta, as per usual, have taken live baits, while he geelbek and daga salmon have been taking a variety of live baits, as well as chokka baits.
Wahoo and some decent-sized couta have come out, mostly on rattlers and halcos.
Some garrick have come out on live bait on the backline and anglers throwing plugs have also had some success.
In the Shelly Beach area the fishing has been quite productive with reports of huge tuna being caught, as well as wahoo and a few couta.

Hard plastics have been doing the rounds, getting most of these species of fish across all water columns.
