Heather Clark brings home the trophies from Benz SA Surfing Championships in East London

Ugu Surfriders, with an incomplete team, pulled off 5th position over all.

THE finals of the Mercedes SA surfing champs at Nahoon Reef in East London saw cooking surf and the finalists were on fire with perfect 10 point rides being scored.

The South Coast’s own Heather Clark  place first in the over 30s, second in the open ladies division and was awarded ‘surfer of the contest’.

I’m super stoked, overjoyed, over the moon about winning – Heather Clark.

Heather, who won Masters in 2014 in East London, said she was ‘super happy’ to get her title back in perfect waves.

Heather was looking for a double whammy but Olivia Brand of eThekweni Surfriders beat the eight time SA Champion to take the SA Women’s Champion title. However, Heather praised Olivia for surfing really well, and said she was happy with second place.

East London holds a special place in Heather’s heart as she also won her first SA Champs at Nahoon Reef in 1989.

28 years ago, Heather won her first SA Champs at Nahoon Reef in 1989.

She said she was honoured to be awarded ‘surfer of the contest’ as she has wanted to win the ‘nice wooden tiger trophy’ for a long time. “It’s a honour to have my name on this trophy along with other guys and girls,”  she added.
