From the bowling greens: Eddie and Jane are KBA champions
News and results from South Coast bowling clubs.
GAMES were hard-fought in the Kingfisher Bowling Association’s Champion of Champions tournament played at Riverside last weekend.
The men’s gold medal went to Port Shepstone’s Eddie Fann, with Margate BC’s Gordon Ogilvie taking silver.
Joint bronze went to Hibberdene’s Brian Perrie and Steve O’Moore from The Bell.
On the women’s side, Southport’s Jane Massam took the gold and Southbroom’s Mal Sheppard the silver.

Joint bronze went to Margate BC’s Jessica Henderson and Port Edward’s Leoni Booth.

BANNERS REST
AFTER the final round of the 2-4-2 mixed pairs ladder last Wednesday the winners were Brian and Pam Cole-Cook.
Runners-up were John Keppler and Leoni Booth, and third were Janet Venter and Ally Weir.
Sportsman’s prize went to Hazel and Dan Delaney and the 50/50 board to Mary Phelps. Thanks to sponsors Golden Moon Spur and Peter Bennett.
Green will close on Monday (4th), with re-opening date to be advised. Provisional date for the club AGM is October 30.
HIBBERDENE
AFTER the wake for Ray Williams last Friday the Bourman Group mixed trips was played.
It was won by Norman and Judy Aiston with Gloria Gerrard.
Runners-up were Arthur Seager, Joey Venter and Martin Rautenbach. Session prize to Chris Snyman, Hana Svoboda and Chris Shone.
Next comp is Tiago’s Open Flame this Friday (1st). Starting times remain 1.15pm for 1.30pm as greens will close in mid-September.
Spring day comp this Sunday (3rd).
MARGATE BC
WELL done to Jessica Henderson (bronze) and Gordon Ogilvie (silver) on their medals at the Champion of Champions tournament last weekend.
Winners of the Mugg & Bean vouchers were Riemer van der Val, Brian Smalberger and Margaret Duffield and the following day Ross Ferguson and Ron Vink.
Spar voucher winner was Jessica Henderson.
KBA district fund-raiser fun day at Port Shepstone CC this Saturday (2nd). Lions fun day this Sunday (3rd). Bowlers and visitors welcome, bring and braai.
Duties: Office – Leni Geyer; tea – Heidi Bracegirdle and Jean Bouverie.
MUNSTER
KRAFTY Chameleon mixed trips was won by Piet Heunis, Cliff Moakes and Linsey Humphries.
Runners-up were Rob Lyle, Gino Allilovic and Lyn Walton.

PORT EDWARD
WINNERS of the Graneez Liquors mixed pairs last Friday were Barry Payn and Phillipa Rowney from Mac Mckenzie and Val Smith.
Session prize went to Derek Wicks and Francien van der Merwe.
Leoni Booth lost in the semi-finals (narrowly) of the Champion of Champions, while Barry Payn acquitted himself very well in going down to eventual winner Eddie Fann during the quarter-finals.
Because of the LSC 2-4-2 competition there will be social bowls on Saturday only, when the annual ‘Battle of the Sexes’ takes place as the final event of the season.
Congratulations to Leigh and Mary Warner on winning the mixed pairs club championship.
PORT SHEPSTONE
JULIE Ross may have been knocked out in the early stages of the KBA Champion of Champions, but it was still a big step forward for her in her fledgling bowls career.
Julie was the KBA novice champion last year.
In the men’s section, Eddie Fann, arguably the best senior bowler in KBA, drew on his experience to win the title, not for the first time.
KBA fund-raiser this Saturday (2nd) and Harbour View SuperSpar trips this Sunday (3rd).
RIVERSIDE
WELL done to Leo Niese, Gerard Waldeck and Bruno (surname not supplied), winners of the Hopdens Spar open trips.
They were followed by Marilyn Francis and Henry Bakaza.
Sessions went to Vi Eltis, Ray Visser and Robbie Heinz, as well as Ron Weddell, Ann Osbourn and Stefan Helberg.
Food Lover’s Mixed 2-4-2 was won by Vi Eltis and Bill Eccles, followed by Brian Douthwaite and Christie Chancellor.
Sessions to Maureen Muller and Shane Nienaber, Gerald Crerar and Phillip Pretorius.
SOUTHBROOM
WOLF Security open trips winners were Steve Rennie, Aubrey Hood and Jennie Rennie, from Denzil Massyn, Keith Roach and Maureen Roach.

WELL done to Jane Massam for winning the KBA Champion of Champions tournament.
The Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips will be played today (31st) in the morning.
Social bowls is played every Friday from 1.30pm. Beginners welcome, dress is casual.
THE BELL
CONGRATULATIONS to our two singles champions who represented The Bell at the KBA Champion of Champions.
Johannie Theron had a very good second game but unfortunately lost by one shot.
Steve O’Moore went on to play in the semi-finals, achieving bronze.
Winners of the Fruit and Veg City mixed 2-4-2 were Sharolyn Dacey and Steve O’Moore.
Runners-up were Michelle Vermeulen and Kevin Mullen. Session prize went to Miriam Seager and Rentie Stevens.
Summer times from September 1, afternoon bowls will start at 2pm, tabs in by 1.45pm.
The AGM, followed by prize-giving, will be held in the clubhouse this Saturday (2nd) at 3pm. Bowling dress, please.
TWENI
DUMISANI Madlala and Mike Findlay won the Harbour View SuperSpar pairs from runners-up Peter and Gerda Clark.
The session prize went to Dennis Graham and Nellie Davies. The club/Wimpy fours was won by Jan Huygen, Anne Payn, Tony Aveyard and Lyn Harris.
Runners-up were Peter Clark, Chris Jacobs, Jenny Graham and Gerda Clark.
Session prize went to Tony Korb, Daphne Hounsell, Mike Findlay and Dumisani Madlala.
Next competition will be South Coast Herald men’s pairs on September 7 in the morning.
All members are welcome to attend an open club meeting on Thursday, September 7 at 2 pm.
VILLAGE
WINNERS of the Hopden’s Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2 were Roy Robertson and Leza Edwards, followed by Ali Mitchell and Shirley Barlow.
Sessions went to Alan Tyers and Denise Palframan and to Brian and Nancy Hughes. Joan Tracey won the the 50/50.
Food Lover’s Market drawn mixed trips is this Saturday (2nd) with tabs in by 1.15pm latest.
The RAC draw and bring and braai will be this Friday (1st).
Next competitions is the Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips on Tuesday (5th).
