Herald Fishing: Bronze bream ‘frenzy’ good news for fishermen
Japanese mackerel and sardines have been top baits.
TACKLE boxes are stocked from the previous week’s bad weather and fishing has gotten a lot more productive, thankfully so.
The weather has been getting better over the past week and, with the calming of the sea, anglers have started fishing again with hopes of landing an early garrick or bus of a shad.

Anglers in the area have continued to catch a mixed bag of species, including kob, bronze bream and shad.
Japanese mackerel and sardine have been getting the shad to bite.
Anglers have been catching a lot of shad at The Block in Port Shepstone.
Early morning anglers have had fun on the beach with shad at Orange Rocks in Uvongo.
Anglers fishing at Margate Pier have been also been landing some decent-sized garrick plus lots of shad.
Far south at Splash Rocks in Port Edward anglers are landing some decent-sized shad and the odd garrick has also been caught.
Reports are that bronze bream have been ‘frenzied’, all the way from Umzumbe to Port Edward.
Bronze bream are feeding freely as the water conditions are almost perfect for them.
Ramsgate, Glenmore and Palm Beach are the favourite spots.
Pink prawn or mud prawns are excellent baits. Target these fish mostly on the incoming tide and remember the limit here is two per angler.
Usually a single hook or double hook trace works best for these magnificent fighters.
