Cruising in comfort in the VW Tiguan
The new Volkswagen Tiguan is a magnificent vehicle. It shouldn't disappoint VW fans.
THE Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI 105kW Comfortline 4MOTION DSG, as the name suggests, is a superb vehicle.
The one I had the opportunity to drive was an understated Indium Grey.
The two most common and immediate questions I was asked were: “How does it drive?” and “how much does it go for?”
It drives beautifully. Plenty of power to propel a solid vehicle of its ilk.
The price is obviously substantial, what, but for what it costs you get so much.

The options fitted include: metallic paint, panoramic sunroof, electrically released towbar, auto actuated boot lid, active info display, 230-V socket in luggage compartment, ead-up display, ambience package, R-Line exterior package, Vienna leather seats, LED headlights, 8-inch discover pro satellite navigation system.

My favourite among that long list was the auto actuated boot lid. That is super-useful, especially when you have a lot of kids’s bags to pack. Just have to make sure they keep clear when it starts to lift.
Luggage capacity is 520 litres which was simply awesome when we spent the weekend at Ouma. Packed it to the hilt.
In terms of the drivetrain, the 2-litre engine produces 105kW of power at between 3250 and 4000rpm.
Peak torque of 340Nm is reached at between 1750 and 2750rpm.
It’s a 7-speed transmission and it glides along smoothly, both to get to number seven, and once there.
For a solid fella it’s pretty quick to 100km/h, a comparatively nimble 9.5 seconds.
Top speed is 197km/h but you don’t want to the traffic guys sending you mail so best keep it in check.
Fuel consumption (combined) is 6.1 litres per 100km. The tank can take 60 litres.
It comes with a three year warranty or 120 000km, plus a service plan of five years or 90 000km.
Service intervals are 15 000km.
The Tiguan is available locally at South Coast Volkswagen in Margate and Port Shepstone.
