Herald Fishing: Last chance to bag a few shad … for now
Summer fishing brings with it some different species.
IT is that time of the year again… when shad season closes.
So, anglers have until this Saturday (30th) to catch some. The season will re-open on December 1.
Kob are also still on the bite, especially in the evenings.
Reports are in of anglers hooking a lot of kob on the Sandspit in Port Shepstone, but getting ‘taxed’ by some huge sharks.

Some of the lucky anglers landed some big kob and they have been getting them on paddle-tail and rapala.
For the occasional anglers, the bronzies are still on the bite. Remember, you are allowed only two per day.
Target bronze bream on the in-coming and out-going water. Pink prawn bait works best for the shoal fish that live in rocky areas.
The odd garrick is still around, as shown by Steven Govindasami who caught one off Banana Beach.
With the sea calming down there should be a lot of activity with live bait.
Summer has kicked in and skates will be around for the catch-and-release anglers.
Target those points from Stiebel Rocks in Pumula, all the way through to Splash Rocks in Port Edward for those skates.
With undercurrents being so strong out at sea, deep sea anglers hardly caught any bottom fish this past week.
Poor water and weather conditions have been the major cause of the drop off in this sort after fish.
