Who is Dillyn Leyds and why do the Springboks need him?
The upcountry altitude factor should weigh in the favour of the Springboks.
THREE changes have been made to the South African rugby team to play against Australia in Bloemfontein this Saturday. Kick off is at 5pm.
Dillyn Leyds comes in on the wing in place of Raymond Rhule.
Francois Louw has been flown in from overseas to do a ‘patch’ job on the flank and fill in for the injured Jaco Kriel.
Scrumhalf Ross Cronjé is back from injury and replaces Francois Hougaard, who has been dropped from the squad.
Of these three changes, Leyds is the most exciting.
He is highly rated and pundits believe he has the full skillset to make it at this level.
Rhule was dropped due to his defensive limitations. Leyds, it is hoped, will be able to both defend and attack in equal measure.
He is 25 years old, plays for the Stormers and is versatile, able to play fullback, fly-half or wing.
After the 57-0 drubbing at the hands of New Zealand two weeks ago, the Springboks will want to put the Wallabies to the sword.
There’s a lot of pride at stake.
