New tree planted on Southbroom’s 16th hole
The tree will help retain the original design of the hole.
There was some excitement at Southbroom Golf Club this week with the planting of a fig tree on the 16th hole.
Sadly, the iconic Umdoni blew down in the recent storm, and it was felt that a new tree needed to be planted to retain some of the essence of the hole.
In general, the fairways and greens at Southbroom Golf Club are soft and receptive after the recent wet weather.

Winning the women’s competition last Wednesday were Allyson Thomas and Lorraine Cook on 42 points.
They counted out Rene Matthew and Janet Humphrey on 42 pts, as well as Sharon Turnbull-Jackson and Heleen Hissey.
The men’s comp was won on 48 points by Paul Lawson and Ian Mackenzie.
Runners-up on 47 points were Roger Hissey and Roy Deakins, as well as John and Dave Fox.
Saturday’s alliance was won on 90 points by Della Kempthorne, Carol Lamb, Sharon Turnbull-Jackson and Janet Humphrey.
Runners-up were Rene Matthew, Solange Fox, Jean Corfe and Julie Walker on 85 points.
In the men’s comp, winners were Tim Harris, Dave Williams, Jeremy Gill and Giles Howard-Ramsey on 95 points.
Runners-up one point behind were Chris Ledden, Nic van Deventer, with Pieter and Jean Henri Els.
In third place on 93 points were Norman Jeffery, Terry Sheppard, Doug Butcher and Malcolm Moorley.
