Gareth Bishop stars for Southern’s cricket
The heavy outfield made scoring runs difficult.
Gareth Bishop starred with the bat for Southern KwaZulu-Natal in their T20 Challenge 29 run victory over Umzinto at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.
The hosts lost the toss and were asked to bat first. They made 112 for five in the 20 overs, with Bishop cracking 42 not out.
He came into bat with the team in some trouble, at 16 for three. He and Ashley Lombard steadied things before Lombard was dismissed for 17.
Bishop was then joined by Meshan Lanka, who made 25 and helped get the team past 100.

In response, Umzinto fell way short, only managing 83 for eight on a track which proved difficult to bat on, never mind the heavy outfield after all the rain.
Imtiaz Hatiya was the pick of the bowlers with three for 17.
Sahal Mansur nabbed two for 16, while Gershon Lawrence, Lombard and Bishop all picked up a wicket apiece.
