From the bowling greens: Saturday League to start soon
News and results from South Coast bowling clubs.
BANNERS REST
The KBA men’s and women’s Saturday League will start on November 11. Entry form is on the notice board and teams will be selected ahead of final entry closing date of October 27.
The club AGM will be held at the Breezeway on Monday, October 30 at 10am. Nomination forms for next year’s committee are also on the notice board.
MARGATE BC
Gary Hess and Dereck Schorn won the Halfway Toyota men’s 2-4-2 last Friday.
Runners-up were Deon van Schalkwyk and Hans van der Walt.
Session winners were Ernie Southward and Alan Gibson. 50/50 to Denzil Massyn.
Jokes Wild draw was Mark Hannaway.
Open trips tournament this Friday at 1.30pm followed by a bring and braai.
Social and new bowlers every Sunday at 9am. Dress is casual, bowls and assistance provided.
Duties: Office – Yvonne Bausek; tea – Pam Cole-Cook, Vi Pells.
SOUTHPORT
Jakes Jacobson, Duncan Randall and Hew Hodgson won the Dr D’Arcy men’s trips from runners-up Artur Lopes, Frik Janse van Rensburg and Pat Bird.
Session prize went to Rynier van Tonder, Leon Sander and Dennis Schmidt.
THE BELL
Winners of the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours were Peet and Susan van Rooyen, Louw and Charmaine Vermeulen.
Runners-up were Tony Korb, Derick Cilliers, Astrid Jackson and Maggs Schmidt.
Session prize to Duncan and Margie Randall, Barbara Gradwell and Jimmy Holtzhausen.
Congratulations to Louw Vermeulen on being the KBA Achiever of the Year.
Well done to all The Bell members for retaining the Best Club of the Year trophy.
TWENI
The South Coast Herald Men’s pairs was won by Dennis Graham and Mike Findlay from Rynier van Tonder and Dawie Schlebusch.
Session prize went to Peter Giblin and Werner Mody.
The Fellowship Cup Tweni, Hibberdene and Sezela was won by Tweni.
The prize for the winning team went to Pat Maggs, Derick Cilliers, Astrid Jackson and Nellie Davies from Tweni.
Next competition is the Wimpy women’s pairs on October 19.
VILLAGE
The winners on a count-out of the Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips were Dereck Schorn, Chris Allen and Keith Roach followed by Denzil Massyn, Gary Hess and Carl Volker.
Sessions went to Graham Fisher, Vernon Clements and Brent Addison and to Ali Mitchell, Ken Hills and Winston van Greune. The 50/50 went to Philip Audibert.
Aubrey Watson and Hazel Hosken won the Food Lover’s Market drawn trips followed by Yvonne Anderson and Winston van Greune (pairs only) and then by Betty Bolton, Johan van Niekerk and Manny Piquito.
Lucky draw to Trevor Smith.
Next competitions are Martin Electronics mens 2-4-2 on Thursday, October 19 and Hopden’s Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2 on Thursday, October 24.
Congratulations to Hazel Hosken on her appointment as president. She and the new committee are wished all the best for the new season.
