Herald Fishing: Seasonal weather keeps most fishermen indoors
After some tumultuous weather, things seem to be settling down nicely.
In terms of rock and surf, local conditions – with seasonal wind and rain – have kept most anglers at home.
However, some hardened anglers were spotted along rocky ledges fishing for brusher.

These fish are found among rocky ledges and points and for this reason you should use heavier tackle.
The main bait, however, is a live crab, but sealice, crayfish, whole mussels, chokka and even sardine heads work well.
Don’t forget that the crayfish season closes on October 31 and permits will have to be renewed again next year when the season opens again.
There are reports of bronze bream being caught all the way from Hibberdene to Port Edward.
There have also been reports of a kob or two around.
Garrick are still around and mainly caught on live baits, such as mullet and karanteen.
Non-edible fishing has picked up and there have been reports of the odd ‘sandy’ and brown ray coming out off the deep water points.
The bass will be running as we head towards the summer months.
Smaller lures have been working very well for these fish.
Junior flukes, lizards, C-tails and top water lures have been the lures of choice.
In the past week it seems that the darker colours have been more effective than the lighter ones, and lures with slower movement have been getting the most bites.
There have also been some bigger bass around which have been taking frogs and small swim baits.
