Karate students do battle in Port Shepstone
Several clubs took part in the winter tournament.
The World Karate Federation (WKF), Ugu karate region held its annual winter karate tournament at the Port Shepstone Secondary School hall recently.
Only affiliated WKF Ugu karate clubs from Margate, Port Shepstone, Umzinto and Scottburgh took part.

Ages ranged from six to 17 years and involved students with white to black belts.
Shihan Frank Moodley said it was wonderful to see the true spirit of karate shown by the karateka and the interaction between the different styles and karate dojos.
“Competitive karate is definitely improving and raising the standard of local karateka, with students able to achieve WKF Ugu karate colours, karate KwaZulu-Natal colours and with two students achieving Protea colours,” he said.
The tournament is held annually to promote development karate on the South Coast and a team from this tournament will be selected to represent WKF Ugu karate region at the upcoming Karate KwaZulu-Natal Development Tournament and ultimately the Karate South Africa development tournament.
