Calm golf from Jesse Verster at Wild Coast Sun CC

Form is temporary but class is permanent.

JESSE Verster, the pro at Port Shepstone Country Club, showed he still has some serious game when he won the Sun International Heineken Wild Coast Pro-Am at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club last week.

He finished the three rounds on eight under par, with scores of 66, 66 and 68.

Included among his birdies were seven ‘2s’ which is quite something.

Admittedly, there are six par threes at the Wild Coast, but that still works out at 7/18, or one every third par three.

The key to his success was his consistency off the tee.

“I hit driver off the tee, hit driver off the tee, everywhere, never missed a fairway,” he said.

He also putted well but that’s something he’s always been able to do well.

Jesse said the course was off the friendly ‘forward’ tees in some places, so this reduced the advantage some of the big hitters had.

In regular news at Port Shepstone CC, Sue van den Berg won the Wednesday competition on 40 points, by two from Boetie Thompson.

Gordon Dickson was third on 37 points.

Last Saturday’s competition was won on 47 points by George Bowie and Phil Myburgh.

Runners-up were Niel Retief and Roy Matkovich on 46 points, followed by Ricky Naidoo and Chris Boyce on 45 points.
