He’s been in this position since the beginning of July and is looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead, including getting to know the community.
The dealership, formerly known as Union Motors has had a long established presence on the South Coast.
It’s an accredited passenger vehicle dealership for sales of new and certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi brands.
Garden City Motors Shelly Beach is part of the NMI-DSM (Durban South Motors) group.
NMI-DSM is one of the leading names in the South African motor industry.
It is a joint venture company between Barloworld South Africa and NH Partnership.
The business is family-run by the Akoo family who have been in the motor retail industry for nearly three decades.
The Shelly Beach dealership is committed to ensuring complete satisfaction through its products and services.

It’s founded on the promise that, whoever you may be you deserve to be treated with gratitude not attitude.
Jeep vehicles are no longer sold through Garden City Motors Shelly Beach, however the supply of parts and servicing of Jeep vehicles is still done through the dealership’s after-service department.
Yasser started with the company in Durban more than two decades ago. “I’m very much part of the furniture,” said Yasser.
He began as a driver, then moved up the ranks over the years, working in the workshop, with licensing, as a stock controller, then as a valuator, before moving to the position of sales executive and then sales manager.
Most of his time with the company has been in Durban, but he also enjoyed a two year stint in Mbombela (Nelspruit).
It’s from there that he has now travelled oceanwards, although he’s no stranger to the coast, having spent holidays in the area as a youngster.
He’s hoping to create more foot traffic to the dealership.
“I want people to know who we are and where we are,” he said.
There are also moves to go inland and increase the dealership’s footprint.
Yasser is also a keen sportsman, having represented KZN Midlands at indoor cricket.
In his younger days, he opened the bowling and fielded backstop.
Anyone who has played the game knows it’s a key position which requires the ability to read the game at all times.
In some ways, his new role at the dealership is something similar.
And it’s a challenge he is more than ready for.
“It’s always been a dream but we’ve got a lot to do. Our focus will be on customer satisfaction. My theory is that customers ‘buy service’ and that’s what we plan to give.”
“We’re here to help and assist in whatever way required.”
“We strongly believe that the brand promises and the experience delivers, which is why we place high value on delivering professional and passionate service to our customers.”
