Golfers ace it at Southbroom

It was fantastic effort from the group of tennis players, who had Rolf Gudegast leading the way.

Southbroom Tennis Club raised some R55 000 at a golf day held up the road from the courts.

This will be used to repair the damage caused by the recent floods, and also be used towards promoting the game in the rural area of Gcilima.

Tennis may be his sport of choice, but he knows his way around a golf course, too.

Winners were Kevin Murray, Nic van Deventer, AB Cronje and Eugene Orsmand on 90 points.

Runners-up were Bob Clark, David Rush, Van Zyl Greyling and Gavin Sole on 89 points, on a countout from Bob O’Callaghan, Chris Ledden, Geoff Skelton and Peter Volck.

The 14th hole ‘long drive with a tennis racquet and ball’ may have been controversial, but it provided something different.

Wednesday’s competition was won by Rene Matthew (nett 73) and Janet Humphrey (34 points).

In the men’s section, the winners were Bob Carmichael (nett 68) and Billy Grainger on 39 points, counting out George Bothma.

The Noelle Edwards Trophy was won by Lynne Blackstock and Janet Humphrey on 46 points, from Michelle Davies and Lorraine Cook on 44 pointd.

For the men, the Roel Germs Trophy was won by Norman Farrell and John Neaves on +8, on a countout from Anton Kohrmann and new Southern Natal Nomads captain Tony Westoby.
