Off the Hook: Dolphins put on a show

Some shore fishermen at Kelso had a bit of luck when they managed to reel in some nice-sized squaretail kob.

South Coasters had a bit of treat last week, not only because of the absolutely beautiful fishing weather, but the dolphins came out to play too.

When there is a lot of bait fish activity going on, it attracts many dolphins.

These weren’t the only ‘big ones’ around this weekend. As many know thanks to social media, a great white shark showed up at Scottburgh beach and even though no one was harmed, a fishing kayak carrying two men was damaged in the close encounter. Must have been quite a frightening experience!

These fish do not migrate and the juveniles are often found in shallow soft bottoms while the adults are more likely to be found in rocky reefs.

Other fish caught during the week included bream, rockcod and soldierfish.
