Karateka show courage and class

It's a sport for all ages.

THREE students from Umdoni Goju Kai Karate Club took part in the WKF Ugu Championships in Port Shepstone recently.

It was an all styles championship with eight clubs taking part.

Kaylen Govender obtained three bronze medals for unison, individual kata and kumite.

Wandile Chilize earned three bronze for unison, individual kata and kumite and Aranya Govender got bronze for unison and silver for individual kata.

In other karate news, Shekhar Sook was graded to a shodan (black belt) recently Shihan Pikkas Windell Shihan, Hanshi Peter Brandon (chief instrutor Goju Kai) and Shihan Sonny Kisten.

Shekhar, who is a senior karateka of Umdoni Goju Kai Karate Club, had a grading performance was described as outstanding.

It was his first black belt and he has reason to be very proud of his achievement.
