Dominant performance from Southern Kzn golfers

In case you are a rugby fan and were wondering, yes, that's the Sharks rugby player Curwin Bosch.

It’s not often a golf team wins a match 8-0 but that’s what happened in Southern KZN’s encounter against Mount Edgecombe Country Club ‘A’ at San Lameer CC recently.

It was the fourth and final pool game and it saw the local team top their pool with four out of four wins.

In order from eight to one: Kai Hielckert beat Wade Taylor 3/1, Jean-Marc Bouic beat Nick Wentzel 4/3, David Rush beat Luka Pattianos 7/6, Jan McDermott beat Jake Carstens 5/4, Mitchel Hampson beat Michel du Preez 3/2, Jack Cubitt beat Curwin Bosch 7/6, Gavin Sole beat Jono Poppesquo 4/3 and Jason Gilliver beat Warren Viljoen 6/4.

In case you are a rugby fan and were wondering, yes, that’s the Sharks rugby player Curwin Bosch.

Unfortunately for him he didn’t have the best of days, especially off the tee. “Maybe he should have kicked it,” joked his opponent, Jack.

Southern KZN now face Zimbali in the semi-finals at Port Shepstone CC on July 11.

This team will comprise Gilliver, Sole, Cubitt, Rush, Bouic, Hielckert plus Chris Zietsman and James Coull.

Jan McDermott is not available for this one, but should be if the team makes the final, which will be played at a neutral venue in Durban against either Amanzimtoti or Durban CC ‘A’.

If they can win these two games, it will mean promotion back into the premier league.

One who definitely won’t be available for the final is Mitchel, who emigrates (reluctantly) with his family on July 7.

The family will be living in a town called Mitchell in Ontario.

Really, Mitchell? “I’m not kidding,” said the youngster.

Before that though, most of the team will be playing in the KZN Closed at San Lameer.

This is the marathon tournament on the circuit, played over 72 holes strokeplay.

Past winner Gavin Sole will fancy his chances around a course he has had much success on over the years.
