The business community and the South Coast Striders joined forces and recently organised a 58km training route in preparation for the athletes who will be running the Comrades Marathon on August 28.

The training run started at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground in Uvongo and headed up Seaslopes, then along the P200 to Gamalakhe, looping back to the Izotsha traffic lights, joining up on Marine Drive, and then all the way to Pistol’s Restaurant in Ramsgate, before heading back to Douglas Mitchell.

There were about 60 runners who took part.
The event was organised by Khadija Isaacs who said the training was ‘twice as hard as the Two Oceans Marathon’.

She said the run had more than 1000m elevation, which is what is needed for Comrades preparation.
Khatija thanked the various local businesses for their support and sponsorship, especially Spar (Harbourview, Uvongo, Manaba and Ramsgate) and Southcoast Mall Engen.

She also thanked the local community for love and support the demonstrated along the route.
