Eagles charity day rained out

Heavy rains cancelled the charity day event.

They say that it never rains, but it pours. Well the Village Eagles certainly found that out when their annual Charity Day was well and truly rained out.

The water that fell from the sky drenched even the most courageous. With sheets of rain coming down some intrepid golfers tried to start the second nine only to return to the clubhouse looking like they had been thrown into a swimming pool.

All of that did not stop the Village Eagles from completing the job at hand, namely to raise as much money as possible to make life for the less fortunate a little bit better. Raising the amount that we did would not have been possible without Umdoni Golf Club’s generous donation of their facilities for the afternoon. Our thanks go to Rynhart Crous and his staff for their generosity and their hosting skills.

As the afternoon progressed it was clear that no further play was going to be possible so a quick committee meeting was held and the decision was that not enough of the teams had completed nine holes to declare any winners and unfortunately the competition should be cancelled. Being faced with a ‘no result’ a lucky draw was done and the fortunate winners of the main prize were Jeremy Boyd, Frank Shaw, Tony Redfern and Noel Jessup.

The committee of The Village Eagles wish to thank all participants for their understanding and their generosity on the day. Instead of the usual fines, Dave Geils got everybody to swell the money pot with his ingenious party trick. The donations made during this humorous game was evidence of the giving spirit that made the day a successful one. A sizeable amount of money was raised which will be donated to the various charity bodies that the Eagles support on an annual basis.
